Every year, every Monday or maybe even everyday we start out with the good intentions to eat healthy and lose weight. But why don't we actually succeed in doing it?
We want to lose weight. We want to change. Yet, we keep giving up and restarting over and over. So what’s happening? In a nutshell we are overwhelmed in our already stress filled lives. This is one big reason why the habit gets repeated and why we don't succeed. So how can you change this pattern and lose weight once and for all?
Steven Long wrote a story about a hammer. A hammer is a great tool but unless you know how to properly use it doesn’t have much value. If someone told you to go build a house with a hammer what do you think would happen? You probably would not be able to build a house. To build a house you need a lot more tools besides just a hammer and then you need specific skills.
The idea here is to think about the big picture of weight loss. Do you know all the many aspects you need to master in order to be a success from start to finish? How many calories do you personally need to consume to lose weight? Do you know what nutrient balance works for your body the best? Do you know how to implement planning quick and healthy meals, shop regularly, and socialize around food? Are you an emotional or stress eater and how to cope with it while trying to lose weight?
Whew, what a list of things to have to master, right? If you've gone on diet after diet and not succeeded maybe it's time to get get professional help with a registered dietician or Certified Nutrition Consultant (or a therapist if needed) and commit yourself to learning these specific skills at your own given pace.
